A Makeover Can Make a Difference

The participants were able to help each other with their facials and makeup
at the Lasting Impressions Studio in Sandy, Utah.

Sandy, UT- Mary Kay consultant Tina Parkin, is working towards her personal goal of having 100 makeovers within three months in order to increase her chances of winning a national Mary Kay contest. The prize- $5000 toward her charity of choice. “The event is called 100 Faces. You get to tell them what makes you feel beautiful and it makes you feel good,” said Parkin.

To Parkin, 100 makeovers equal 100 opportunities to enhance the possibility of giving back to those in need. The many unique faces that showed up to the workshop at Lasting Impressions Studio are all women that want to help and have a good time by being “models” for the contest.  Brittany McGee, the co-host of the event said, “I love helping people and always have, I started doing Mary Kay just for some extra fun. I have had the privilege of seeing the difference Mary Kay has made in so many lives and love that I am able to be a part of it.” To McGee this isn’t just another contest it’s part of reason why she loves working for Mary Kay. “I think the biggest benefit is seeing the difference its made in others' lives whether it’s my customers, or people that have decided to earn some money and join my team. I have seen so many women grow and just be happier because they feel good about themselves.”

The contest consists of before and after pictures that are submitted to the national corporate office where many Mary Kay consultants have also submitted the faces from their own personal goal. “The company is giving away 50 of the $5000 donations to charities and they’re done in the customer’s name. So you get to choose whatever place you’d like to donate to” said Parkin “which makes it extra fun for the models.” Although Caitlin Garner doesn’t really like having her picture taken she said she was willing to do this so she can help Tina reach her goal. “I don’t really like my picture taken but if my picture is chosen I would like to donate the money to Big Brother Big Sisters.”

Tina Parkin took the "after" pictures of Caitlin Garner  for the 100 Faces contest.

The toughest part about competing in the contest for Parkin has to be picking a charity. “Every time I do this I hear about so many different charities that I didn’t even know about. So I think for me it would really be a toss up for who I would pick but I’m a big believer in the PrimaryChildren’s  or Make a Wish Foundation would be one of the ones I would choose.”

The results of contest won’t be known for a few more weeks but Tina Parkin is hopeful that with 100 participants she will be able to win the contest. She has been with Mary Kay for eight years and she too loves that she is able to provide encouragement and inspiration to all the women she has worked with. “It’s definitely been really empowering to be a part of it,” she said. “It’s definitely great to be able to connect with people and be able to have that one on one and get to know your people.”

Through Parkin’s personal consultant webpage women are able to contact her at anytime if they have questions. She hopes to inspire women to reach their dreams and provide an outlet for mothers, sister, aunts or friends to become whoever they wish to be. “When you have kids growing up in a Mary Kay house hold and they see you hit these goals, they see how you react to it so it builds you and it builds them at the same time.”
